“This is Not Your Real Face!”

After missing a few episodes, Ward returns with his new partner Agent 33 in Agents of SHIELD S02E14 “Love in the Time of HYDRA.” The name of the episode is very fitting as it appears Ward and Agent 33 are going to be more than just partners. With Hydra being almost completely wiped away, Ward is now making his own rules (not like he didn’t do that before.) He continues to prove to us how ruthless he can be and will kill without hesitation. Although we all know his weakness…. Skye.

Hydra Love

There’s a moment in this episode where Agent 33 (with a restored face) changes her facial features into Skye’s in an attempt to please Ward’s sexual desires. Ward is into it at first, but then turns her down. Claiming she tried to kill him and now he’s over her. I’m pretty sure none of us are buying that and I wouldn’t be surprised if Skye uses Ward’s feelings against him again in a future episode.

Now armed with a new face, Agent 33’s villain stock is on the rise. Think about it, once again we have this Mystique-esque villain on the loose. It won’t be long before we see her infiltrating SHIELD and deceiving everyone including the audience. SHIELD has slowed down since the mid-season and this re-addition may help keep the slipping episodes become interesting again.

Speaking of Skye, now she’s all by herself in quarantine, in a cabin with no communication to the outside world. Doesn’t that suck? I hope she’s got books to read because that’s going to get real boring, real fast. As much as viewers disagree with the decision to do this. It is the right decision. They don’t know what she’s capable of and she still doesn’t have a hold on her powers. At least it’s only for one episode. I have a theory on what may happen, and you can read it below.

The REAL Shield

The episode’s more intriguing storyline has got to be the reveal of the “Real” SHIELD.  Hunter was introduced to them at the end of last episode and it is revealed that they are the ones actually running the show behind closed doors. We’re introduced to the current head of SHIELD, Robert Gonzales. The real SHIELD thinks Coulson has been compromised since his return and are plotting to take him out. Bobbi and Mack are in on it and Hunter wants nothing to do with it.

This plot is doing a great job of developing the characters introduced to us in this season. We really feel for Hunter and count him as one of the team now. Bobbi has said that she is going to take Coulson out next episode, although there is still something about her that doesn’t want us to believe that to be true.

Next episode we’re going to see SHIELD vs SHIELD (Spoiler alert, SHIELD’s gonna win.) Could we maybe see the InHumans interrupt the fight? or maybe Ward and 33? I find it hard to believe that either SHIELD side is going to come out completely victorious. Something is going to happen that is going to make them side with each other to destroy a greater evil. I think we’re going to see some InHuman action. With the exclusion of them this week after such a cliffhanger, it only makes sense for them to return with a bang! Maybe Skye and her new powers will be the one to fend them off, showing that SHIELD needs her after all and that she’s 100% team Coulson.

Overall

The episode lacked the action we are used to and SHIELD appears to be slowing down. I’m hoping my theory comes true and we get a triple threat SHIELD vs SHIELD vs InHumans match next week. What’s to say when SHIELD attempts to abduct Skye next week, the InHumans won’t try to save her? This could be the perfect setup to integrate both the InHuman and SHIELD storylines. As for this episode though, it was kind of a dud. I’ll accept it for it’s story progression and character development, but I’m hoping next week we’ll be given the episode we really want to see.
