Crossover Cops
A question many viewers have been asking since the very first time we are introduced to him… “Who is Harrison Wells?” He’s a time traveler, he’s Eobard Thawne, and he’s The Flash’s arch nemesis sometime in the future. We as the viewer were exposed to Harrison Wells in recent episodes, but Barry and friends are still somewhat left in the dark.
The Crossover of all Crossovers!
Joe and Cisco travel to Starling City to investigate Wells’ car accident from 15 years ago, only to uncover the REAL Harrison Well’s body. Let me start by saying, this is the crossover I’ve been waiting for all season! Quentin Lance and Joe West. Two of the best actors on each show respectably. Joe and Lance had a few conversations and Joe actually appears to get through to a hard headed Lance at times. They shared personal conversations about their daughters and Joe’s advice for Lance’s Laurel problems didn’t go unnoticed. I do like how Flash and Arrow tie both stories together with what is going on, but I do wish the shows would collaborate just a little more. At times it seems like you aren’t really sure where we fall in the timeline of each show and to someone who watches both series that can get a little confusing. Timeline argument aside tho, I loved seeing Joe and Lance in the same frame and was impressed the show actually pulled it off.
Then we have Laurel and Cisco. While in Starling, Laurel comes to Cisco for his help with her Canary Cry. These scenes just seemed a little forced to me and the chemistry between Cisco and Laurel just seemed to be awkward and weird (opposed to the chemistry between Cisco and Ray from last week, which was spectacular.) I also just didn’t like the fact that Laurel just came out and told Cisco (a stranger) that she was the Black Canary. Again, just seemed forced and kind of unneeded. I did enjoy the comic-y picture at the end of Cisco posing with Laurel in full getup. You gotta love Cisco!
Back in Central City a new metahuman, Everyman, is on the loose and is proving to be a hard catch. Everyman was one of the best one-off villains we’ve seen outside of The Trickster. With the power to transform into anyone he touches, this gave the episode a nice little twist. We had good use of Eddie in the episode as he was framed for shooting two officers. It appears the show runners are continuing to buildup Eddie as a good guy and he’s becoming more and more likable every week. The Everyman S.T.A.R. labs scenes where he tried to play off as Barry Allen were pretty hilarious (I chuckled a bit when he was making the moves on Caitlin.) This all comes to a stop when Dr. Wells tazes him, justifying Caitlin’s opinions of him. When Barry does finally regain his consciousness (you realize he can heal broken bones in no time, but he gets knocked unconscious and is out for a few hours? Anyway…) He managers to catch up with Everyman and kicks the living hell out of him. Good final fight, showcasing Barry’s fighting abilities.
Wells’ isn’t going to be happy
Part of me wanted to see Caitlin side more with Dr. Wells and against the group. I don’t really understand why they had the Dr. Wells tazer scene in the episode, only to have Caitlin find out Wells’ was lying all along at the end of the episode. Which then brings us to the end. Barry, Cisco, and Caitlin stumble upon Dr. Wells’ secret future room.
The Decision
It really says something about a TV series when after each episode I’m left wanting more and more and waiting impatiently for next week’s episode. The Flash has no problem doing that. Although this episode did have some plot holes and some forced crossover moments, it still got the job done. We had a new entertaining one off villain that really broke the routine of the show. Most of the characters had a good use in the episode and as always we’re left wondering what will happen next week!
