Atom in Action
Looks like it’s Ray Palmer week on the CW as Ray returns to “team-up” with Oliver and team Arrow. Lance is on a mission to bring Oliver in and is searching all his known whereabouts. With team Arrow disabled and in shambles, someone has to step-up, that someone is Ray Palmer! Crime is running rampant and it appears a metahuman has turned to a vigilante-less Starling City. With everyone out of commission, Felicity offers Ray and his Atom Suit.
I really enjoyed this episode. Ray just wants to help and a frustrated Oliver is forced to stand by and watch someone else do his job. Oliver shows pure signs of jealousy around Ray and the two have great on screentime together. You can tell Oliver doesn’t like Ray all the much, but this is his only option to save Starling City from Deathbolt (aka the poor man’s Cyclops.)
After failing the first time as per usual, Oliver instills some advice on Ray that could help save his life. This shows that even though Oliver dislikes Ray, he still knows what needs to be done to save the city.
Meanwhile, in prison Roy is having a real tough time. Inmates starting fights with him, Lance is bitching in his left ear, and all Roy wants to do is serve his time. Later, Roy is stabbed by a guard and presumed dead, leaving us with a “what the fuck just happened?!” feeling. Not too long after, we find out it was all staged with the help of Diggle’s ARGUS friends.
While the town thinks he’s dead, Roy leaves town to start line anew (he’s real inconspicuous driving that flashy Red Mustang, isn’t he?) This was a great send off to Roy as he will no longer be a series regular. I would hope we get to see him in some future episodes (and hopefully he does more than just get his ass handed to him.)
The real shocker comes at the end of the episode when Ra’s pays Thea a visit. Ra’s impales Thea, leaving her for dead. As we know this is all a ploy to get Oliver to join the League of Assassins and take Ra’s Al Ghul’s place.
The Decision
Based on the preview for next week, it looks like we’ll be getting another visit to Nanda Parbat, and with that The Lazarus Pit! We also saw a glimpse of Sarah too. I guess this is how they will bring her back so she can join the new spinoff show with Atom and Firestorm. Speaking of The Atom, Ray Palmer has been making more and more appearances on Arrow (and one on Flash.) I’m assuming they are giving him more exposure in order to prep him for the spinoff as well. Arrow is in its final furlong right now and it doesn’t seem to be holding up. Deathbolt was a little unneeded but at least we got to see more Atom in action!
