Atom Saves the Day!
It was a Week full of Ray Palmer this week as he appeared on both The Flash and Arrow. While Palmer was introduced in Arrow, his witty humor seemed to be more fitting in The Flash.
We are treated to another Brandon Routh Superman reference right at the start of the episode as Ray makes his rocky landing into Central City. Ray needs help completing his Atom suit, so Felicity brings him to S.T.A.R. labs for Cisco to take a look. Cisco and Ray his it off perfectly. The chemistry between them is uncanny and I loved every second of it.
The downer of the episode has to be the drama between Eddie and Iris. Eddie now knows that Barry is the Flash and must keep the secret from a suspicious Iris. Suspicious girlfriends are NEVER a good thing and Eddie is feeling this full force.
While I understand that the showrunners are starting to give s the breakup of Eddie and Iris, I’m wondering why they are going about it this way. As a viewer, Iris appears to be the bad guy. Even after a long talk with Barry, she still manages to turn on her bitch mode and threaten Eddie with the relationship. For once we actually feel bad for Eddie. Right now, Eddie is established as a likeable character. Again, I’m not sure why they are going this route seeing that Iris will eventually get with Barry and Eddie will possibly turn bad.
Emily Kinney made her first appearance as Brie Larvan AKA the “Bug-Eyed Bandit.” (A name that Cisco and Ray teamed up to discover.) You may recognize Kinney, she played Beth from AMC’s The Walking Dead. The villain appeared to be another one off and was only around to drive the story. Brie was fired from Mercury Labs when she attempted to weaponize a bunch of robotic bees.
The one thing I dislike about shows like The Flash and Arrow is the sheer amount of one-off villains they have (Flash more so than Arrow.) The Flash has a few thrilling stories they are dishing out right now, but still they feel the need to keep introducing bland, one hit wonders to the series. Why not elaborate more on these interesting storylines (kind of like Arrow did at the end of Season 2 with Slade Wilson) rather than keep this villain of the week BS?
After being trapped in an office building with the killer bot bees, Cisco has the incorrect blueprints for the building and tells Barry the wrong way. Long story short, Barry gets caught, stung, and dies. Joe uses the suits defibrillator to bring Barry back, and Barry starts questioning whether or not Cisco and Caitlin know Wells’ secret. I enjoyed this plot point because as the viewer we know Cisco and Caitlin know nothing about the real Dr. Wells, but Barry doesn’t. Cisco takes a bee for Ray and Barry must revive him using his electricity. This finally gives Barry the Clarification he needs in order to trust them again.
At the end of the episode, Barry finally reveals Well’s true identity to Cisco and Caitlin. Caitlin refuses to believe but Cisco is open to the thought because his recent memory of Wells killing him is bleeding into this universe. Something that I thought was fantastically done. This could mean we could start to see Caitlin make the transition into Killer Frost as Cisco makes the transition to Vibe.
The Decision.
“All Star Team Up” was a great episode. The story around Wells progressed slightly more and looks to get even more in depth next week. Ray Palmer fit in perfectly and we’re starting to get more Atom exposure as they prep him for his spin-off team up show. I’m getting a little tired of the constant “villain of the week” but as long as it continues to progress the main story arcs, I’m okay with it.
