Keep Walking
With only one episode left, Walking Dead S05E15 “Try” served as what is hopefully a perfect bridge to the Season 5 finale. The show has reached the boiling point and is about to burst in next weeks hour and a half episode. Maybe next week we’ll finally get the answer to the question I have been asking for the past few weeks: Has Rick turned into the bad guy?
I believe in Rick’s mind he is doing what’s right, but take a step back and look at it from a different point of view. Rick is still fairly new in this community. Although he is attempting to make the community a better place, he kind of jumped the gun a little bit. Think of how you would feel if you saw your neighbor fighting with some stranger in the middle of the street, only for the stranger to yell at you and tell you your entire way of living is wrong. Even if they are correct, you wouldn’t trust them, would you? Rick let his emotions for Jesse get the best of him and has had it out for Pete ever since they first met (even though Pete is a dick anyway.) It appears Rick is going to be exiled by the community in the next episode, or at least attempted to be.
Then we have Michonne. Michonne is a hard character to read, I got the sense that she may be trusting Alexandria too much. We see this when she goes out looking for Sasha without her sword. Did Michonne leave her sword behind because she is trying to adapt to her new life? Or is she just so comfortable in Alexandria that she completely forgot to take it? Michonne appears to be getting along pretty well and she was one of the characters that wanted this life from when they first stepped foot through the gate. Then at the end of the episode, Michonne clocks Rick upside the head, knocking him out before he can dig himself into a deeper hole with the community. Why did she hit Rick? Again, there could be 2 reasons. 1: She knew Rick was getting in over his head with his comments and simply knocked him out to save him from something bad happening (the more likely answer.) 2: She disagrees with him and is knocking him out for the safety of the residents. Maybe it’s a combination of both!
Carl almost had his first kiss in this episode. With all this death, destruction, and fight for survival going on in the world, it’s easy to forget how much growing up Carl missed out on. He may be fearless when it comes to taking down walkers, but when it comes to women, Carl’s as scared as ever (Edin even calls him out on it.) This is definitely good for Carl. Edin seems tough and able to fit in with the group, plus it’s not every day he crosses paths with a girl his age.
Let’s not forget about the question everyone is asking…. What do the W’s on the heads of the walkers mean. Well there are a few theories right now. Most likely this is the marking of a certain gang from the comics. The one gang that appears to be the most popular is that they are a gang called The Wolves. The Wolves may be a rename of a gang from the comics called ‘The Saviors.’ In the comics, The Saviors were a group of brutal individuals headed by a foul mouthed leader: Negan. The Saviors use the walkers as weapons and chain them to their property to act of guards. It’s possible that in the show they are called The Wolves, and that they are marking walkers with W’s as to say “these are our property” The only thing that doesn’t fit with that theory is, why would they dismember certain walkers if they were tying to use them as weapons? Guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens in the finale next week!
