We Work for the REAL SHIELD
This week, Cal Zabo bands together a team of superviallain scrubs called “indexed” to enact his revenge on Agent Coulson. The indexed proved to be not much of a threat to Coulson and friends as they seemed to defeat them fairly easily.
Cal’s team of misfit indexed seemingly backfired (although Angar the Screamer was kind of cool.) This plot point of the episode was the least interesting to me. You know these “villains” cant hold up against SHIELD and you knew SHIELD was going to win. This plot was here to move the story a little bit and help develop Cal’s character a little more.
Give me more InHumans, because that shit is awesome! The eyeless InHuman who we are speculating is “The Reader” took Cal at the end of their fight with SHIELD and brought him back to what appears to be the InHumans base of operations. There they tell Cal that he is not “On of Us” and then bring him upstairs for a confrontation with an unseen individual. Who is this person? We’ve been guessing it’s Skye’s mother and Cals former wife, although that may be too easy of a call.
At the beginning of the episode Mae contacts her ex-husband (a SHIELD psychiatrist) to come and take a look at Skye and help her get a hold on her new InHuman abilities. At first Skye is hesitant to comply with this new method, believing she has a handle on her powers. Eventually Skye does come around as she knows this is what is best for herself and the team (even if it did take fractured hands to change her mind.) Skye’s character has grown since we first saw her as the little hacker girl from episode one. She continues to prove her loyalty to SHIELD even when her teammates fear her.
Then we get the Mack/Bobbi/Hunter storyline. Last we saw, Mack choked out Hunter when he was asking too many questions. Now Mack has him tied to a bathroom sink and is holding him hostage. At the end of the episode it is revealed that Mack and Bobbi work for SHIELD…. the REAL SHIELD! So what does that mean ? Is Coulson’s team the “fake” SHIELD? Are they using Coulson’s team as a distraction from the real organization? This story, while confusing, is also the most intriguing in the series at this moment.
Conclusion
While I was hoping for more of a reveal from Mack and Bobbi, the episode still got the job done. Although it was a weaker episode of the season, it still progressed the story and still kept you wanting more from the series. Cal’s team battle was a little underperfoming, but hey at least we got another C-list Marvel villain with Angar the Screamer.
